Hughbon Condor is an award winning, internationally-respected carnival costume designer based in Leeds with over 45 years’ experience.

Lead Artist of High Esteem Carnival Designs ( a family affair with his son Sephbon) his creations have won the prestigious Leeds Carnival King & Queen titles an incredible 20 times.
From giant metamorphosised caterpillars and bees pollinating flowers to a horse running through a slave plantation cane field, Hughbon has used his engineering background to bring some of the most innovative and memorable large scale carnival costumes to life with movement and transformation.

Carnival is not the only arena where Hughbon’s designs feature; in theatre he has created costumes or set designs for Geraldine Connor’s Carnival Messiah and for Phoenix Dance Theatre. His costume made of real blooms and foliage for the 2016 Harrogate Flower Show was a widely acclaimed showstopper.

In 2005 he was one of three artists from the UK who gained an Arts Fellowship in Trinidad and has produced costumes for carnival events in the Caribbean, Singapore, Hong Kong, India and Nigeria.

For Leeds West Indian Carnival (LWIC) 2017 50th anniversary celebrations, Hughbon recreated the 1967 winning Carnival Queen and his Hell Fire, Heaven Reign costume won the much sought after Carnival Queen title.

Working closely with LWIC since the 70’s, Hughbon is passionate about sharing his costume design skills and has run workshops and masterclasses across the UK. He has also been Artist in Residence for LWIC, Leicester Carnival and the UK Centre for Carnival Arts.
